WhatsApp stop sharing consumer data with Facebook in Europe

Facebook and WhatsApp data sharing

Facebook has temporarily stopped collecting WhatsApp user data for advertising across Europe due to pressure from privacy watchdogs. Under the changes to WhatsApp's data collection policies that were announced in August 2016, Facebook was able to see the phone number people have associated with their WhatsApp account. This enabled the US social network to link and track profiles between the two services, helping Facebook gather more data for its advertisers. Read the full article here
