What We’re Saying
My First 3 Months at MCCP
Marian Olabode shares her experience as a Research and Insights Executive at MCCP, offering a firsthand look at the challenges, rewards, and unexpected discoveries of her first three months in the industry.
Entering the workforce after graduating is a significant milestone in any young graduate’s life. For me, the transition from college to my first job as a Research and Insights Executive at MCCP has been a rewarding journey filled with valuable lessons, unexpected challenges, and a broad spectrum of experiences across various industries. Here's a glimpse into the reality of my first three months in MCCP how it compared to my initial expectations.
Great Expectations: As it was my first job in my career, it was hard to know what to expect. I anticipated working with big-name brands and delivering insights that would shape their strategies. I was very excited and could not wait to embark on this new journey.
The Reality: The reality, as I soon discovered, was a mix of the expected and the unexpected. Yes, I was working with renowned brands, but I quickly learned that the world of market research and insights was far more intricate and complex than I had ever imagined. Although I had the foundation from my degree in TU Dublin, I was introduced to the complexities of the consumer mind, as well as navigating datasets and distilling meaningful insights. It was challenging and all very new to me, but it was also immensely rewarding.
One of the most surprising aspects of my role was the sheer diversity of clients and industries I got to work with. From Alcohol to FMCG to Healthcare, Entertainment and Financial Services, this exposure to a variety of industries allowed me to broaden my skillset and adapt my research techniques to meet the unique needs of each client. It was like getting a crash course in multiple industries simultaneously.
Overall Experiences: In these three months, I have had the privilege of contributing to several exciting projects. I have helped leading brands in Ireland and Globally understand consumer behaviour and assisted organisations in refining their marketing and communications strategies. Each project brought its own set of challenges and rewards, and I have been struck by the value of insight and the power of anchoring brands in their consumers’ world through qualitative and quantitative research.
But it was not just the projects that made my experience special. It was the people. The team at MCCP is a diverse group of experts, each bringing their unique perspective to the table. I have learned more from my colleagues than I could have ever anticipated. Their mentorship and guidance have been instrumental in my growth.
Excitement for What's to Come: As I reflect on my first three months at MCCP, while the reality of the job may have deviated from my initial expectations, it has exceeded them in every way. I have discovered a passion for uncovering insights that drive meaningful change, and I am eager to continue honing my skills and making a positive impact for our clients.
In the ever-evolving world of market research and insights, I know there will be more challenges and surprises ahead. I am excited to continue this journey, knowing that the path ahead is bound to be as fascinating and fulfilling as the beginning.
